ROLE
We need a backend engineer with strong DevOps/infrastructure expertise to build and own the core infrastructure for HILOS's AI-native 3D footwear design platform. This role is critical because we're building a no-CAD platform that processes complex 3D geometry data, integrates with our ML/computational geometry engine (Lab team), AND we need someone to own our entire infrastructure, deployment, and reliability strategy.
CURRENT CONTEXT
- Tech Stack: Node.js/Python backend, React frontend, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP)
- Team Structure: Small engineering team working closely with 3D geometry and AI/ML service teams
- Stage: Moving from beta to production - need robust, scalable infrastructure
- Key Technical Challenges:
- Processing and storing complex 3D geometry data efficiently at scale
- Building APIs that serve real-time 3D design interactions
- Integrating with our ML models and geometry engine
- Owning end-to-end infrastructure: CI/CD, monitoring, deployment, reliability
- Scaling infrastructure cost-effectively as we grow user base
- Ensuring system uptime and performance for design workflows
WHAT THIS PERSON NEEDS TO ACCOMPLISH
Backend Responsibilities (40%):
- Design and implement scalable backend services for 3D data processing
- Build robust APIs that integrate frontend, Lab's ML models, and geometry engine
- Optimize database architecture for complex 3D geometry and design data
- Collaborate with Lab team on ML model deployment and data pipelines
- Work with frontend engineers to ensure seamless API integration
DevOps & Infrastructure Responsibilities (60%):
- Own and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP) - compute, storage, networking
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable deployments
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for production reliability
- Manage infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Optimize infrastructure costs while ensuring performance and scalability
